Ode to Soul Lake

Ode to Soul Lake

A Poem by Krystal Newton

Masked by reflection, its calm serenity provides an illusion.

Its sweet seduction slowly invades my senses.

My once motionless, emotionless state is now a cluster - unrestrained.

I marvel at its splendor, its taste cleans my palate.

I refuse its request for a kiss,

and choose to revel in pure beauty instead.

Gently I touch one foot to the surface - I give in.

The feeling of the cool, fresh water encompasses my senses.

I find the unchartered depth intriguing.

I find myself venturing deeper and deeper,

but my limbs grow tired.

My body convulses uncontrollably.

I reach out for one. last. breath.  My hand feels a solid surface.

My palms stretch out vehemently for land.

I find myself at its edge once more; now purified.

Staggering, I crawl to the comfort of the earth.

As I struggle to catch my breath, I can't help but turn back.

Wondering when I will once again slip beneath to glassy existence.
