Inebriation

Inebriation

A Poem by Krystal Newton

Your substance is sweet, I watch you retreat

to the bottom, like the ocean’s waves from a beach.

Lethe flows in your veins, when you’re gone nothing remains.

Such effortless artifice follows your touch.

You enhance; you destroy – I can’t discern which one is which.

But you pour you heart out as I do the same.

For the moment you bring pleasure – pleasure fades into pain.

Ah! The sanctuary found in a drink...yet the imprisonment that follows. Such is the curse brought on by a curse. Outstanding piece! Bravo!

I'm browsing through the list of new writing, and this is one of the few good ones. If I could make any suggestions: vary sentence structure and perhaps rewrite the ending, as it seems a weak close to a very insightful piece. Great stuff, thanks for writing.
