Like Me

A Poem by kayla
"

About my younger cousin

"

I see her and I worry that she'll grow up to be

and go through the same trials and troubles as me;

so clueless and naive, young and dumb,

she wants to be older, she wants to have fun.

"Too young" for boyfriends and parties, but she doesn't care,

already wearring lacy bras and dying her hair;

she thinks that it's cute, thinks that it's cool,

because cousin Kayla did it, she thinks she can too.

But I worry about her because she doesn't understand,

it's not cool to do drugs and run away with a grown man;

But her dad is on meth and her mom a drunk,

so I don't see any other way that she'll get out of her funk.

She's impulsive, impressionable, and it's terrifying to think

that the little girl might grow up to be just like me.

YIKES! this is a terrifying poem. U should try ur best to help ur little cousin. She's setting herself up to be abused and used by nasty older men. Nasty older men love girls who are broken and come from broken families. It gives them the advantage to just have sex. Drugs help them. So ur cousin is gonna let all these nasty men have their way with her. its an opening for abuse and be discarded.

What do I think? Hell of a lot. When I came to return the review and clicked on your name...and saw you were a teenager, I'll be honest, I thought it would be self obsessed twaddle. Yet as I read, your age became an irrelevancy as I became lost in the intensity of your words, your theme and feelings. The reason is simple enough. It is astoundingly well written. And far from egocentric, it looks at another, and questions your own actions and your own culpability in their choices. Frankly, if you're writing like this now, what are you going to be like ten years from now? I'd predict impressive
