Not the One

Not the One

A Poem by kayla
"

This is a poem about loving someone who you know isn't good for you.

"
No matter how charismatic, how beautiful those eyes,
I know, deep down, you're not the one. You look at me
and smile, we laugh and joke, but I know it's only because
I haven't put you one edge yet, haven't bothered you,
aggravated you, pissed you off. Because if and when
I do, that gives you an excuse, the excuse, to hurt and
tear down walls I've barely built back up, to become a
monster that I don't recognize, that I don't believe in,
So as I sit here with you, and you look at me with those
beautiful eyes and that smile, I take three
steps back, because you're not the one.

I really liked this a lot. I can really relate to this, too. My ex was a really great person, and I loved him. But, he basically destroyed me over the course of our relationship. And, I just couldn't handle it, but I didn't want to let go either. At the time, I really couldn't see how bad he really was for me. Honestly, I wish you'd written this and I'd read it like a year ago. It probably would have made me realize sooner that I needed to leave.
