Our Body is a Battlefield

Our Body is a Battlefield

A Poem by kayla

We wake up wondering

what's wrong with our hair?

And how did our thighs

get so fat down there?

We look in the mirror,

and ask, What is wrong?

And how did our nose

get so goddamn long?

We go to the mall

convinced we're too fat

to ever in our life

wear something like that.

And when you start

to feel good about yourself,

you see some skinny model

on the magazine shelf

proclaiming your weight

is at an all time high

and here is a workout

to shrink those thighs!

But women, don't forget

that our body's a battlefield.

Everyday they shoot darts

that're hard to heal.

Don't fall into the trap,

you're beautiful just as you are.

Don't let them tear you down

and heavy your heart.

No matter your skin color,

your hair texture or you're weight,

best believe that you look great.

Don't fall into the trap

that you have to be perfect,

you're beautiful as you are

and best believe you're worth it.

(:

I like the title a lot, hah. And the poem is really great as well. It really describes what girls in our society have to go through today. I know it's the same way for me too. I don't really like the way I look and it sucks to see all these beautiful models that seem they can put anything on and still look pretty. But, I'm getting better about thinking good things about myself. I just wish other people would see what I'm trying to see and what you described in the last stanza.

I agree whole heartedly with you on this one. I love how you steam rolled this issue with such a wonderful piece. Way to go!

Love it! I can relate to this from a male perspective. My X wife was a beautiful woman and she was constanly finding things wrong with herself. Drove me crazy. Great rhymes in this too. Great Job.
