My Mothers' Story

My Mothers' Story

A Poem by kayla
"

a prose

"

She hoped for a life without want,

for a family that wouldn't be broken.

She married soon after college,

but was naive and softspoken.

She played the suburban mom role

and was always the perfect wife.

She made good money, had a good career,

and thought she had a good life.

She focused on her chakras,

and stayed away from negativity.

Until the day that shook her morals,

changed her ideas of trust and dignity.

The day she heard that phone call,

her husband calling some w***e-

and all she could do is stand there

in that space between him and the door.

She had never expected this-

like a slap in she and their daughters' face.

She felt like an idiot, a dumbass,

she felt branded and disgraced.

And when she charged into that room

that man bold-faced denied it all,

made up bullshit line after line

as she felt her building blocks finally fall.

She wouldn't have a life without want,

because she wouldn't put up with his s**t.

Her family would have to be broken,

because she couldn't deal with this.

They tried counseling, everything,

but she was nobodies fool.

She knew he was still sneaking around

and there was only one thing she could do.

They signed the divorce papers

and her life forever changed.

From then on she grew stronger

and was never naive or softspoken again.

She learned her voice

and taught her daughter well:

don't stay with any man

who goes and puts you through hell.

really good. loved the story you told about your mother. that last line speaks truth. question. was the rhyme scheme intentional towards the end? or did it just happen out of nowhere

it was intentional (:
I don't really want to comment about it, as it is some truth from your very personal life and I respect it. But I don't see the point in the lesson of staying away from men, how long you're going to do that. Someday and at some part of life you'll have to give up to the nature. You need to learn to be strong enough to carry on if something bad happens, no matter how bad and how shattered you are, you must learn how to collect yourself again and move with a smile on your face. You must know how to deal with problems and issues, staying away from them can not be an option in this world. I respect your poem, and everything you've mentioned in it, may your mom moves on and you can be her support. Keep writing. :)
