Drops

Drops

A Poem by Kayla

Drip drip.

The tiny dark circles on my pillow
Cannot possibly contain this pain.
They should be rivers, oceans, seas,
Not innocuous little dots.

Drip drip.

I wish I could make them stop,
I wish I could force my lips to stay shut.
Maybe then my soul would learn
That it's better not to light a match.

Drip drip.

You can't go back, you can't change anything,
They taunt me, these sparkling drops.
Perhaps they only sparkle so brilliantly
Because they're taking pieces of me with them.

Drip drip.

Come sleep, free me from these drops,
If not the pain that calls them forth.
A few hours reprieve will never be enough
But for now it is all I can ask.

Drip drip.
Drip.
