"A FINAL GIFT" (Delicate Embrace)A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell“A FINAL GIFT” (Delicate Embrace)
I have dreamt you A thousand times (or more)
The delicate scent The Sweet disposition A hundred thousand ways That define your essence
As my loving sister You nourished my mind Giving me new venues Past the poverty of our existence
You placed sacred texts Before my young eager mind Binding my fate to words
A hundred thousand lullabies You beautifully sang to me Each note a sweet kiss Laid gently across my ear
As time moved mercilessly And your poor earthly form Fell prone to human frailties I choked back fecund tears
What cruel fate of irony Would take you from me Ironically on your own (Day of birth?)
For years I walked angrily Raising my fist to GOD Or any self styled “saint” Who would dare listen to me
Why should my best friend My “other” mother My divine sister Be plucked like a thorn From the blossom of my heart?
One night (years ago) A voice spoke to me As if from a high lucid plane
As I opened my weary eyes I saw my beloved sister A vision of celestial beauty Too radiant for these Impractical words
She reminded me life Is a series of moments And that nothing else Is as important as love
Love is everlasting Immortality made light Cascading into echoes By those we leave behind
I cried like a infant Begging her to stay She sighed gently And shook her head no
But THEN she urged me To forget all sadness Because those we love Never truly leave us
They are recorded well In the annals of our memories And if we ever need them We can always find them
HERE In the confines Of our own hearts
Miracles & blessings Are never as uncommon As we like to think
And LOVE is a gift That is best shared Cherished And always REMEMBERED
