"A KING'S DREAM"

"A KING'S DREAM"

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“A KING’S DREAM”

Once upon a history

He sat upon racial lines

Pondering what was

And the dream of what could be

Lifting beyond causal words

Of freedom, equality…peace

He dared to make such dreams

A profound bit of reality

DESPITE

The pure ignorance, fear &

HATE

That was spewed upon him

He persevered

What salty tears

Cast upon indignities

& threats of death

Could encumber

That which is so necessary?

Ponder if you will

A world where a dream

Could not manifest itself

Where our children

Stood upon opposite sides

Where the notion of equality

Was a laughable biblical concept

Think now upon life

Where the most belittled

Is as blessed as its most

Opulent

There is no perfection

That clings to dusty mortality

Only in the sweet delegation

Of living a life worth dying for

Perchance to dream

Is simply to live

Outside the boundaries

Of what we THINK

Is the acceptable norm

Or maybe to dream

Is to think of the collective (whole)

The beautiful realization

That one must put others

Beyond the needs of one’s self

At any rate measured

The beauty of one’s soul

Is having the capacity

The sheer audacity

To dream where others

WON'T

In the annals of history

One King’s dream resonates

Not because of it’s encompassing beauty

But simply because he gave all

For it to one day come true

Well Kenny-San,
I see you are all dusted off and came back with golden gloves on..
This is an exquiste and honorable tribute to a beautiful, courageous man.
Our lives are all better for his tireless belief that equality is the ONLY way.

I am sure he is winking at you for this piece:-)

Very nice. MLK was such an honor and great man for what he did. I liked this a lot.

A great tribute to a great man. I have great respect for MLK and others who shared his dream of equality and freedom for all. Check out my own tribute to Dr. King at fabian.podbean.com in my original song entitled The Dream. If and when you get time. Cheers. Come by my page and tell me what you think if you give it a listen. 100% rating on this simply for my love of the content.

Besides, that this poem made me think it bears poetical beauty in simple lines (it is not special to write difficult words, the craft is in the simplicity!), however, so innocent, so wonderful. I loved this.

Think now upon life____________________ gorgeous! Wonderful thought. Fascism, racism..... that's for self-named heroes-manipulators. Intelligent, real characters, real humanity lovers, those people laugh about them, they don't appear at their parties, don't support idiots, they simply don't wanna be blamed!

Well said, Kenny! This is a lovely tribute to a man who shared his dream in spite of the danger to himself. There are so many lines I loved in this piece but if I had to choose a favorite stanza I think it would be:

At any rate measured
The beauty of one’s soul
Is having the capacity
The sheer audacity
To dream where others
WON'T

This verse shares a profound truth in a beautiful way. I really loved this write.

this what makes a difference..
great people dream..they live their dream and make it come true
great people have a vision no one could see.have lovely minds
indestructble on the inside,so vulnerable on the outside
you were too good to be true Mr king..i remember you words
they used to shock everyone who listen..i have a dream
you had a lovely dream Mr king, like so many other dreamers
you were too strong..your life was worth a thpusand lives
thats why you were not allowed to live..thats why they killed you
you were too good to be true, and like all dreamers you were drifting high up
and you could never see,,never see that dreamers like you should never live long
or they will change all plans already made by people who lived in the dark
but still no one could hide the sun forever..only cowards could kill you Mr king
lovely write..
