"Field Of Remembrance"

"Field Of Remembrance"

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

"FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE"

Where is the young boy

Who rain across

these open fields?

The courageous child

Who slew dragons

With his make-believe

enchanted sword?

The one who

dared to dream

of riding to

the silvery moon?

I once laughed

(joyously)

Tears were

as once

as common

to me

As charity

is to a miser

My innocence

Was as

open and evident

As the wide

open sky

Love

was once

a concept

As brilliant & breathtaking

As the rising

sun above

And as sweet

as a perfectly

ripe peach

the hues & textures

of my

youth

were as

vibrant as

a technicolor sky

As the

summer memories

faded into

the increasingly

winter nights

I have found

my ebon hair

turning silently

gray

The habitaul smiles

and sweet innocence

have disappeared

into the dusty dawn

As my wrinkled

hands ache & yearn

for bygone days

I increasingly fear

the pale rider

who waits

at the end

of my race

as tears

prohibit my

weary vision

my caustic

common sense

regards me

to the decadent days

of yesterday

where the

beauty of today

beguiles me

like the

sweet jasmine

of those

long ago

forgotten fields

a place where

hopes & dreams

still had

a chance

of perhaps

coming true

Your title caught my eye and your words really drew me in. I often become nostalgic and miss my childhood a great deal, especially the innocent eyes I used to view the world through. I love reading pieces like this. It really made me smile, in addition to giving one hope that childhood dreams still have a chance of coming true. Adding to favorites.

This was beautiful and uplifting. It makes me want to carry on with my dreams and focus hard on them. Great job on this. You truely have a way with words.

Kenny,
an almost woeful piece. As we age we look in the rear view mirror, and yes, those dreams never seemed to get attended to. Did they? I love your classic style of writing. Beautiful expression here my Kenny-San:-)

"I look around,
The leaves are brown
And the sky
Is a Hazy Shade of Winter."
Similar emotional bracket here--I'm getting old, and that pisses me off!
