"Swimming Upstream"

"Swimming Upstream"

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“Swimming Upstream”

Beyond the pale clouds

And the irreverent dreams of yesterday

My heart has dreamt of you

An image of sheer perfection

Clothed in the facetious garment

Of pure and unadulterated friendship

As we were children once

I held your innocent hand

To catch you as you fell

Now the subtle touch

Of your delicate skin ripples

Causing an urgent ache

A longing beyond the simplicity

Or the audacity of unrepentant words

The eloquence of unrequited love

Strums a chord dissonant

Echoing across my melancholy heart

Across the shimmering chasm

The friendship that bound us

Has fractured and fallen below

The syllabus of constant lies

Has broken something tangible

And urgent in your eyes

While the misery of cruel truth

Has dried and cracked effortlessly

Across the stale musings

Of my once enabled heart

It baffles us how a once pure and strong friendship can crack and blow away like dust.
Once more, your mighty pen has managed to pen a most wonderful piece.
Kenny-son, I do not believe I could ever catch you as you continue to ink out poems such as this.

Beautiful and heartbreaking all in one moment!

A sad but beautiful piece of writing. How strange, how sad, it is when affection or love turns to dust .. seems almost impossible, yet happens.

Your wording is very smooth, delicate .. almost discreet but says what needs to be said, 'Now the subtle touch Of your delicate skin ripples Causing an urgent ache A longing beyond the simplicity Or the audacity of unrepentant words'
