![]() "A Beautiful Lie"A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell"A Beautiful Lie"
What you have seen Is such a duplicitous fabrication The chameleon like camoflague That protects my jaded heart
You think I'm noble & kind But behind these silicon sentences Lies a more selfish exaggeration
I long not to be in this place Where the stale smell of mothballs Mix with the decaying dreams of yesterday
I ache to break ties with all I know And taste the sweet acidic highway The lonesome tale of pure freedom
Solem promises keep me here A sacred bond forged by she Who loved me the most
In her comfortless winter years She asked me to shephard her flock Even as her beautiful spirit rose Above this barren plain of reality
No, I am no (super) hero Nor am I that courageous Perhaps it's only raging fear That keeps me in this stifling place
Or could it be misplaced guilt? That cirumnavigates my conscious Allowing the disconcerting lies To fall like leaves at my feet
Until the solace of reality Pours liquid satisfaction Into my vapid and weary soul
I continue walking this path That is so trodded by my ancestors Where the death of dreams Falls like tears from my eyes
