"Euphoric Conversations (And I Dream Of You)

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“Euphoric Conversations”

(And I Dream Of You)

Lately the conversations

That we have indulged

Seems so much richer

Than when you were alive

In my dreams your voice

Is as clear as a clarion call

Or perhaps an angelic trumpet

We sit by the river side

With the cool winds blowing

And speak of things…effortlessly

The beauty of your face is flawless

The eloquence of your words

Seems so sublimely rich

I ask you what’s best

Life or what comes after

And you speak in mysterious subtexts

You say with a sweet smile

That dinner must be eaten

Before you receive any dessert

I think on this and realize

The divine plan is beyond mortal keen

And the perpetual cycle of life

Will all be revealed…in time

But how beautiful

You are my lovely sister!

The aches and pains

Of your former life

Have been removed

The sweetness of your smile

Has placed an indelible mark

Upon my trouble weary heart

I miss you so much

My heart is incomplete

Without the constant solace

Of your breathtaking words

Only here in this else world

Can I talk to you freely

Where the timelessness of today

Echoes across the Elysian fields

Just before I feel the waking breeze

Across my jovial brow

I ask a burning question

Will I ever be as happy (there)

As I am here with you?

I ask as only a man/child could

You gaze upon me lovingly

And just as the ethereal darkness

Comes to claim your face

I hear your words

Long after the bitter reality

Settles across my landscape

I cling to those words

Like I do to this pillow

As it is something safe & secure

“It’s your choice”

Those words reverberate

Across these pale walls & textures

They cling to me like dew

Your words compel the scratching

Of this pen against this paper

And your words of solace

Represent the beauty

Of our divine creator

Your words will shield me

Guide me and instill me

With riches beyond this world

YOUR WORDS

INSPIRE ME

 “It’s all our choice”

Hello Kenny, man this piece bought a tear to my eye. After losing my wife a couple of years ago I can relate to this feeling that you had many times with your sister. It is a beautiful thing when your love before death was so strong it connects you two still. You have done yourself proud, you have done your sister proud and all the poets on this site should stand and give you an ovation for creating a wonderful tribute poem. I truly enjoyed!

This is so beautiful! I am thunderstruck! I am sure your sister would shed many tears reading this. I absolutely loved each and every line of this piece. One of my favorite lines and what I thought was quite cleverly written was:

I ask you what's best

Life or what comes after

And you speak in mysterious subtexts

Your poetry is so delightful to read! You are an awesome writer. I am sure I will be pulling one of your books off of Barnes&Nobles shelf. Excellent read! Very emotionally evoking!
