"the pontification of the pretty poseur"

"the pontification of the pretty poseur"

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

"the pontification of the pretty poseur"

pejorative words filled her mouth

like the stickiest of peanut butter

An intricate web of lyrical (non)sense

Long silken gloves worn to her elbows

antiquated gown with sexless sleeves

Were the uniform she proudly wore

She spins an elongated version of untruths

Risqué behavior reverberates across her

Acid tongue and visceral verbosity

She trains each masculine eye

To assemble their attention

Upon her suave perseverance

And her intriguing feminize mystique

Her verbal words scald like water

Evaporating lesser intellects

Providing her marvelous sport

Of those whom would challenge

Her boundless and irascible intelligence

Beneath the scintillating scent of sex

And the beguiling eyes of silhouetted grace

Lies a profound and heartbreaking reality

Deep within her heaving bosom

Lies a fractured and frightened child

Who found such eloquent solace

In reading and imaginary friendships

The one who would protect her most

Betrayed her with the cruelest of lies

Ripping the innocence of childhood

Into tiny jagged shards of reality

Since her unhappily ever after

She has slipped into the most

Baseless of curious facades

The sophisticated socialite

Whose only concerns are self (serving)

And potentially self (loathing)

As she drags another puff

From the cylindrical ash

The toxic tar of nicotine

She sips the elixir of scotch

All the time wishing

She could crawl surreptitiously

Into the dark and furtive places

A place far beyond the rainbow

Where timid young virgins

Could never be slain or tarnished

Where love is never

A dirty and damning spectacle

That curdles like spilt milk

A divine reality where

The innocence of childhood

Is never ripped & torn assunder

By the evil despicable dragon

That in another time & place

She would call her stepfather

THe fourth stanza was awesome as was the entire poem. I like the way you said that she trains each masculine eye to assemble their attention. This woman seems pretty messed up but she is very powerful when it comes to baiting in the men. Though, she doesn't seem happy. Her life is complicated and anything other than simplicity brings about problems. I loved this poem. You painted a picture and showed us every detail, flaw, and whatever else of this woman. Excellent read!

Let me catch my breath- You have the reader involved in numerous emotions at one. Curious about her, jealous of her, angry at her, sympathizing with her, etc. Great poem.Or story. You captured it all. I tip my hat to you sir!!
