"musical musket"

"musical musket"

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“Musical Musket”

I take to task

ANYONE

Who tells me that

Rap is musical genius at work

I challenge you

With some

NINA

ETTA

ELLA

DON’T

Make me

Pull out some

MONK

COLTRANE

Or GET SICK

With some

BILLIE

OH NO!

PLEASE DON’T

Try to compare

Ciara,

Keisha

Janet

(damn it)

To the musical

Quaintness

Of the one

And only

ARETHA

Your soul

Is so thirsty

My heart

ACHES

For you

I need the

Vinyl scratching

Of an ACTUAL

ALBUM

To make

My kitty

Purr

(no offense)

Why don’t you

FREE YOUR MIND!

Then perhaps your

ASSETS

Will follow

Suit

My soul must be as

Antiquated

As yours is

White(washed)

Poor little

You

I will lay down

Some jazz

And thick

Mustard soul

Perhaps

You can smell/taste

The flavor in

Your

EAR

Yes...true music is nearly antiquated. I love your choice of word and imagery. Excellent job!
