"peanut butter fingers"A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell"peanut butter fingers" (Kyndee's Conundrum)
once upon a simpler time my eldest little princess ran to me with fingers covered in sublime peanut butter
covered from head to toe across my perfect walls and smeared against my white leather couch
my temper held for only a brief moment as she stood there holding a "samwich" she made just for me
I pulled her close and squeezed her tightly as she placed both hands across my smiling cheek bones
we both spun around & again laughing like two inebriated vixen spinning until we fell towards the gravity induced tiles
days passed into weeks the weeks passed into years and now my sweet little princess is a young lady all her own
she gazes at me with ever increasing awareness of what is good and proper of this cycnical world we know
as she stays with grandma or spends more time reading "Twilight" or some other adolescent fantasy
I realize that only too soon my little baby bird will lift her ever blossoming wings taking flight against the southern skies
as melancholy as it may be I will feel such pride yet bittersweet longing
wishing the days of peanut butter caked finger tips were once again all our own
