Lame Game

Lame Game

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“Lame Game”

It’s so lame!
How we play
These silly roles
Cookie cutter crazy

The clothes you wear
The shoes on my feet
We stand in a line
Just to consume stupidity

Red hot tiki torches
Blazing hot as the sun
The bitterness of hatred
Consumed like popcorn

Make your own identity
Before you reach puberty
No more he or she children
Just non-binary pronouns

You can salute the flag
Or just burn a cross instead
The sweet passion of freedom
Is now multiple-choice fun

The whole system is rigged!
That’s what they are saying
But we believe the news cycle
That is brought by a billionaire

We are lame ducks dear
Just waiting for the bullet
The inevitable conclusion
The last dance with destiny

They say that the universe
Is now constantly shrinking
But we would never notice
While Twitter is still twerking
