THESE SILVER TEARDROPS

THESE SILVER TEARDROPS

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“THESE SILVER TEARDROPS”

Your love makes me shiver
But never from passion
The pain from your blows
Leaves me trembling from despair

Our relationship has soured
Like expired, sour milk
Making my stomach turn
Emotion sickness beyond measure

Broken lies beneath my feet
Like shattered, stained glass
Sharp fragments of love
That slowly fell apart

Your love frightens me
Like a child in the dark
Terrified by a monster
That is far too real

A slap, followed by a kiss
Confusing my broken heart
The highest of mountains
And the depths of despair

My tears runneth over
My prayers are in vain
The angel of death
Wears a smile too familiar

Like a broken animal
I moan away my pain
A leash upon my neck
Hung there by cruel words

My tears like raindrops
Fall from my swollen eyes
Burning away like cruel acid
Any pride you left behind

I stare at a sharp razor
And then at an open door
Desperately trying to decide
Which path frightens me less

These silver teardrops
Are your cruel reward
Revealing your miserable soul
And the depths of my own despair
