Heart of Gold

A pretty face isn't all that matters.

I look at you, and you look at me,
But more than you is what I see.
I stare into the soul inside
The one that burns with kindness and pride
The kind of light that is only a dream
To all human kind, or though it may seem.
It is very rare,
This spark you have.
I wouldn't give it up for the world.
Not for the king
Nor for the Pope
Because you're the one who gives me hope.
My love for you burns with such bright light
It's the only thing that feels truly right.
Some call me crazy
And this may be true,
But there's no one in this world for me but you.
You are my existence, my light, my star
It will never matter how far you are.
And when you kiss me,
Oh, how you kiss me -
The entire world seems to freeze
And my skin begins to shiver.
Romeo and Juliet
Would go run and hide
Because our love burns so much passion inside
We share that special flame of love and desire
The kind of love that people admire.
There is so much passion behind my eyes
So much to give
Too much to give
Yet it all belongs to you.
Your words of greeting caught me off guard that day
And after that,
Nothing stood in my way.
Ever since
Through thick and thin
Your thoughts of me never wavered.
The lust of others never drove you away.
You always chose to stay.
Through every hardship
Through all the blood, guts, and tears,
You were by my side
Your hand in mine
Guiding me all these years.
So when I look at you
There's more to see
Than what you've grown to be.
From what I've told
From new to old
Your essence is defined
By a pure heart of gold.

Beautifully captured Katelyn. We can all but hope that when we look at the person who means most to us, that we see much more than just the sum of their parts and get to know them unknowingly, letting their goodness seep into us, changing our hearts and minds forever in the process.
