Bipolar monkeys

Bipolar monkeys

A Poem by kmartell

bipolar monkeys-

when depressed sweep the floor.
it may not always help but

at least you will have a clean house.

i have a friend who dispenses wisdom
like a gum ball machine.

it makes him feel better i assume
so by him feeling better
it helps me to feel better too.

sometimes when in the middle of things
i look out at big trees, they
used to be home in ancient times.

or the clouds that stand up behind the big trees
white as a summer picture reminding me of family
who are now gone.that's

when we used to all get crowded up in the station wagon and drive to
picnic tables sitting like abandonment at our favorite family spot

my father would start up the charcoal

the grass and weeds grew up to our waist

my sister and i would hang upside down from our favorite branch
looking at each other like upside down monkeys.

You make the dark and light of things play so well together as your words dance across time, in and out of the maze of existence. Poignant and powerful.

These monkeys, like the hard steel balls in the wooden pinball table. Yes they bring back sixties memories. But you already knew that.
