climbing

climbing

A Poem by kmartell

we climbed higher and higher

bugs, snakes,

the presure of climbing must have entered my head

i should have known better than take a twelve year old

i should have planned

one balogny sandwich each

not enough water

it made me sad  later that a mentally ill person

took his daughter

into the middle of the wilderness up a mountain

3,000 feet to a lean-to

we had to walk constantly til dark because of the biting flies

a large snake sprouted out under the porch

and yet she never once complained

she never did

she never did

i love her so for her great  courage and

understanding for her poor recovering father.

Fathers are the most important impression on a daughter...the "togetherness," in this adventure had to make a very important impression...that dad, though seen in a negative way through his own eyes, was I know, being a daughter, seen and felt with an accepting love.

All the little details in this poem really resonate with me. Everything from the bologna sandwich to needing that extra water. Also, judging by the last two lines, she is going on more than just a physical journey up a mountain with her father. It is also a quest for him to find solace. She seems to be the one that really keeps him anchored and gives him hope when the climb gets tough. That unconditional love is my favorite part.
