drowning

drowning

A Poem by kmartell

drowning, i should have known i would

what with  constant reaching inside myself to

pronounce things, grabbing the vermont roadmap

covering my mouth when I sneezed

leaning talking,  flicking the wheel

trying to find east callas

then I move.

the summer night sky heard about me

stars barely moved an inch  when it happens

, the benign beneath black, an itch in my shoe, color of my death

Will be wasted on them,  I drown

I drown

Trees in the headlights, far colors, mountains, and snow

Under the waves as I wait lying there in my bed of lakewater.

Evocative... As if a metaphorical painting of self discovery, drowning in what we uncover when we delve into the parts of us we have never explored... Or this could be about purposefully getting lost on an adventure, just to feel... Or let go...

i was thinking of Mad River in Vermont...this poem is beautiful...and brought me back to my younger days in Ryegate and to my favorite state.

thank you for this revisit.
