the wilsons went out

the wilsons went out

A Poem by kmartell

everytime the wilsons next door went out they took the cat
it was a clattering regergetation
a word sprung bright as the day

every time the wilsons went out one of them
would begin a circular argument
and the other would nod at the fencepost and say
something about the lawn

everytime the wilsons went out the sky was blue  as a handle and the
line thrown over the side of their lives
kept them together dispite screaming kids
she in her winter coat from sears and roebuck
him with the kids one, hanging down off his gloved hand
the other sulking and miserable

everytime the wilsons went out i was caught in the act
with my second bloody mary perhaps and
holding my lawn clippers like a hidden threat
