Ezekiel

Ezekiel

A Poem by kmartell

i would turn over and die light

would be a memory

i wrote to my son who was in the army

i wrote my daughter

saying

trees  bend

wind is wind

thrown into the air

not mine not yours

wheels came out my

mouth

Ezekiel

i tried to tell someone

who it was

Ezekiel

i tried all the doors

i chewed  gristle

ran everywhere

i held ground

night covered my apartment

you

find  pieces of me

under the rain,  when

we all wake

The question implied by the title is..Or else what? What will be the repercussions of America not reversing its disastrous foreign policy which has seen such a huge loss of life in the decade long war against 'terror'? The poem marries the personal and political, so, interestingly and alarmingly, the speaker would appear to be threatening their own destruction (and, of course, the country itself could be speaking) if America doesn't in a sense wake up to what is happening.
