Everybody Knows

Everybody Knows

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

Everybody knows what a broken heart feels like

The ache the burn the feeling of your stomach churn

It seems like the world has stopped and kicked you in the gut

You can’t get out of bed, can’t get him out of your head

The heart takes on an invisible shield

Carefully blocking pain from all who play the field

Everybody knows the sound of the blues, everybody knows it’s love you're gonna choose

Even when battered and bruised, love shattered and anything but amused

Everybody knows the sound of the blues

Everybody knows what it feels like to find new love

The kind your heart has only ever dreamed of

It seems like the world is standing still allowing you to have your fill

You can’t get out of bed, can’t get him out of your head

The heart takes away it’s invisible shield

Allowing entry to all who’s love you can feel

Everybody knows the sound of the blues, everybody knows it’s love you're gonna choose

Even when battered and bruised, love shattered and anything but amused

Everybody knows the sound of the blues

This is a wonderful evocative, thought provoking creative piece of poetry, i was so impressed with the detail description, the aptitude to learn from one's mistakes and that we are all vulnerable to the ineviatable victim of being in love and our hearts surrendering to the tragedy which is better known as a heartbreaker.

I have had my fair share too and still love is blind walking down a lonely darkcountry lane with only the sweet smell of rosemary and thyme to guide me to the end of the line.
Fair lady has written an epic which has charmed the birds off the trees, thanks for sharing

La-Tes speaks the truth.

Everyone knows, and that's great, because we can all empathise. I certainly can. Great write.

Love is my favorite emotion. When you get to experience this magical feeling, your world becomes so much brighter. That's the "happy" side of love. The side I admire is the pain and heartbreak that comes after a failed relationship. Why? Because it is our greatest teacher. We learn more from the pain! Plus it gives me great material for revenge poetry :) Kudos. My friend.
