Lost Highway

Lost Highway

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

Burning down the highway lost in thoughts again

As the lights pass us by you wonder

Waiting on forgiveness, keep holding your breath

Words are like candy when spoken in the moment of wrath

Can’t remember when things went wrong

Singing along to our favorite song

Said I can’t remember when things went wrong

Driving down the highway lost in thoughts again

As the lights pass us by I wonder

Searching for apologies, counting the signs

Words are like candy and I’ve had my fill

Can’t remember when things went wrong

Singing along to our favorite song

Said I won’t remember when things went wrong

Burning down the highway lost in a memory

Keep clean your forgotten lie and I’ll keep holding my breath

Cause words spoken can be broken

When you take candy from strangers, you must beware the danger

l love both those lines, this piece is really catchy, I love the metaphor of traveling down the lost highway and a couple in trouble cause they won't communicate but argue instead.
