I Walk the Beach Alone

I Walk the Beach Alone

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

I want to know, I said I want to know

As you walk along the wet sand on the shore

Where it is that you go

With time spent far apart as distance spreads you become a memory of a work of art

The waves come crashing down giving comfort in it’s old familiar sound

Walking along the beach, striving to be free

Distance has found it’s way to come between us although

We are both walking along the wet sand

And the waves crash and the tides pull to and fro

I said I want to know, I need to know

As the waves crash down, bringing that old familiar sound

Where is it that you go as the ocean moves to and fro

I know there’s something that’s slowly risin’

These dog days of summer, with the temperature always stiflin’

The beach holds the memories of the way things used to be

I wanna know, babe I need to know

Hearing the sound of the waves crashing all around

Does it bring you visions of what we used to do

Down on the beach with our souls on the sand

I said down on the beach searching for the promised land

Do you remember when the waves crashed

The sound it would make and somehow we both knew that feeling could not last.

I think I know now, honey I’m sure I know how

As you walk along the wet sand on the shore

Where it is that you go

Because the tides they are forever changing

And my love, my heart is married to the tide

Try hard as you might, I will not be your urban bride.

You see my heart has been chained to this ocean

And Lord knows I can’t leave the blues of the sea

Waitin’ on some man to come and rescue me.

I said I want to know, yeah I need to know this time

How you could walk along this wet cold beach

Hoping my heart was something not so far out of reach

I’m like the ocean love and I’ve nothing left to tell

I roll quick up on you like a big ocean swell

But quickly pull myself back in, as I take you with me deep into the pits of hell.

I hope you know, I tried to let you go

But the ocean it has a constant way about it

The tides will rise, then the tides will ultimately fall

We used to walk the beach two souls drifting apart

as sound of the gulls lulls us from our start

I hope you know, I tried to let you go
