Devil's Playground Expanded Version

Devil's Playground Expanded Version

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

The sand is deep in the devil’s playground

Digging a hole that sinks deeper and deeper

Eating away at the mind, with thoughts so profound

Making me the devil’s keeper

Roaming his infamous ground

The sand has been replaced by a drink,

The drink has replaced my thoughts,

And now I am unable to think.

The devil smiles as his playground grows,

As the alcohol freely flows,

The sand consumes me from my weary head

To the bottom of my warm toes.

The devil dances under the moonlit skies.

Taking me under his spell

With all his deceit and lies.

Captivated by the merry go round

Dancing away the night

Sealing my fate, in the devil’s playground.

Feeling my head spin and my soul slowly lifting without a sound

Dancing away the night with careless ease

Allowing the devil to do with me as he please

The music in my mind begins to rush and the crowd that’s gathered

claims the drink is not the reason the garden’s grown so lush

Round and round and round we go

All the while the alcohol freely flows

Up and down and all around

My soul lifts but my feet stay on the ground

Laughing crimson smiles while he tends to his playground

The devil dances under the moonlit skies

Taking me under his spell with all his deceit and lies

Captivated by the merry go round

Dancing away the night

Sealing my fate in the devil’s playground

The devil smiles as his playground grows

As the alcohol freely flows he undresses me from head to toe

Dancing away the night waiting for the morning to come

Forgetting to walk the path of Jesus the Lords only son

The drink has made me the devils muse and it’s his tonic I have begun to abuse.

The sand is deep in the devil’s playground

Digging a hole that sinks deeper and deeper

Eating away at the mind with thoughts so profound

Making me the devil’s keeper, roaming his infamous ground

Dancing under the moon light to his devilish sound

The devil smiles as his playground grows

For it’s me who’s the devil, and you are my sand

Sinking away into my magic carousel land
