March On

March On

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

The desert sand is hot

As he slowly marches on

Following in perfect formation

Through the forgotten land

They travel through the day

Sweating from the heat

And yearning to bend from the weight

Of the bundle he carries on his back

With everything he will need

In order to attack

He took her love with him

Sacrificed her heart for his nation

The desert sand is cool

As the night began to fall

He slowly marches on

Following in perfect formation

Leaving her heart

To fight for his nation
