The Shadows of My Mind

The Shadows of My Mind

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

Walking through the shadows in the dark corners of my mind

I find it hard, if not impossible

To leave the past behind.

I wonder if only I hadn’t been so brash

If only walking along those dark streets

I hadn’t let you pass.

What would life offer me now?

Traveling down the road

Memories and feelings

Of all we shared begin to unfold.

The shadows hold the shapes of your face

A forgotten distance

In a long ago place.

Stumbling up the sidewalks I roam

Hoping against hope

For your love to come back home.

Why did I stray so far?

I ponder these thoughts as the lights in the streets

Flitter off the cars.

Walking through the shadows in the dark corners of my mind

I think of the scars you left on my heart

And leave it all behind.

a terrible place those dark corners , full of anguish and pain . you have suffered enough , step out into the light and begin to live again . open your heart and let your beauty flow . very very well written poem .
