UnfetteredA Poem by Krista Gallant
Mother notices but does not really see
Daughter disregards cuts as no biggie Long-sleeved shirts worn under searing sun Everyone to busy to care and always on the run Daughter lost for words, unable to share Cutting herself in times of great despair Razor blade currently her only friend Slowly slicing and yearning to emend Scars multiplying, getting tricky to hide Difficult to bare, must express the rage inside Conflicting emotions of fear and tenderness Losing her innocence and all her blitheness Time to cope as darkness falls once again Father slithers to tuck his Daughter in Held down hard as he fills her void with shame Father now satisfied, Daughter feels the blame Never awaking from this eternal nightmare Smelling Father's foul breath on her nightwear In an instant, Daughter cuts herself too deep Her essence flows as she slips into eternal sleep © 2013 Krista GallantReviews
