Silent Sounds

Silent Sounds

A Poem by Krista Gallant
"

The sense of hearing – precious – we should be grateful for such a beautiful gift. There are sounds that provoke within us deep emotional responses that we tend to carry throughout our lives.

"

Next to silence, what beautiful sound is that I hear?

The sound of ocean waves crashing on the rocky shore.

The window tapping of raindrops during an open downpour.

The wind rustling briskly through densely leaved trees.

The resting beating of your heart as it fills and empties.

The fluttering sound of a new book’s pages turning.

The hum of a summer night’s breeze, almost whispering.

Sparrows singing gently to the early morning dawn.

The crunchy noise of fall leaves as you walk across the lawn.

The roar of thunder as it rolls and resonates through the sky.

The swaying, silky awns resembling a distinctive drawn-out sigh.

A crashing waterfall echoing its song in a cave back and forth.

The crackling of lake ice as it breaks from Spring’s warmth.

The night-time chirping of nature when no one else is around.

The bustling and snapping of a campfire on the campground.

The strong winds murmur during a winter snow storm.

The heavy panting when you hear something outside the norm.
