Dark Harbinger

Dark Harbinger

A Poem by Krista Gallant

My sinister dark harbinger visits upon me once again

The one we all have and try to pretend does not exist

Maneuvered silently by life’s lethargic steersmen

Filling our heads with ominous thoughts and then covets

Visiting repeatedly, persistently nattering caustic wrath

Commanding acknowledgement and vital power

Beseeching us to take that forlorn, destitute bypath

Towards over-indulgence, wrath and the envy of others

Murmuring hideous things, trouncing you into compliance

Ashamed and embarrassed, fortifying its unyielding hold

Hindering elated moments, an instrument of transience

Shielding oneself with curtains of blackened feelings scold

It is time to accept and expose this demonic creature

To recognize our own harbinger’s influential significance

Releasing its control over oneself by silencing it’s banter

Dismantling it piece by piece by exonerating it’s nuisance

Make yourself promises and implement consequences

Muzzling each fault impacting  your freedom and soul

Whether it’s smoking, overeating, lust or darker coaxes

Just devise positive new goals and excellence you will extol
