Memory of LoveA Poem by K. McNeila man reminiscesWhen the sun was bright and the earth round I knew her.
She used to smile when she sung melodies Of a once lost love whose nostalgic heart led home. Thinking that their passion, never blemished by time, might one day cease to exist, They held on as tight as possible for what seemed like forever Which only lasted a few years because soon their arms grew too sore And their hearts grew indifferent. I knew her.
She used to hold my hands and look into my eyes With an intensity that made fear climb up my bones. Thinking that one day that fire might fade away, She held my hands as we slept every night So I could feel the fire even when I couldn't see it. But it never really faded. I woke up And she was looking at the moon the way I knew she would never look at me again. I knew her.
At the park with the love of my life I saw a woman Sitting with a man. Smiling, holding hands, Sharing intense irreplacable moments. In that one second when our eyes met, I knew her and She remembered. © 2008 K. McNeilAuthor's Note
