A Poem by K. McNeil

When he first saw me, he gave me a smile and I gave him one too.
When we were 12, for Valentines Day, he gave me a rose and I gave him one too.
When we graduated, he gave me a hug and I gave him one too.
When we started dating, he gave me a kiss and I gave him one too.
When I cried, he gave me a shoulder and I gave him one too.
When we got married, he gave me a ring and I gave him one too.
On our anniversary, he gave me the best night of my life, and I gave him one too.
Things went down hill and when he cheated on me with my sister, he gave me a broken heart, I filed for divorce and he remembered there was no prenupt so I gave him a broken heart too.
After we divorced, and I got rich, he gave me a few "I'm Sorry's" and I gave him some too.
I will never forget all the things he has given me but there is only one thing he gave me that I can't really give back.
He gave me a reason to love myself better than I did before and for that I am truly thankful.
