25) Good-byesA Chapter by Kelly M.
I'll be waiting for you.
Drew's last words were never so dear in her heart. But what if he's not waiting anymore? she asked herself. You know him better than that, her heart whispered in response. "It's time to leave." The soft words of her mother drove her from her wandering thoughts. She turned to her, and in the midst of the bustling train station, gave her a last embrace. "Now don't forget--" April laughed. "Trust me, mother. I'll be fine. I promise." Then she turned to her father, and jumped in his arms. "Thank you for letting me do this," she whispered appreciatively. "It means more than you know." He nodded, and April moved to her friend. After giving her a hug, they said their own good-byes. "Will gave this to me," Kanika said, handing her a neatly folded letter. "He asked me to give it to you." April took it reluctantly, and then placed it in her pocket. "I'll read it on the train." Kanika nodded, and then hugged her once more. "I'll miss you, friend." April smiled. "Me, too." Then the sharp, ear piercing whistle sent April running for the train entrance. She waved as the wheels lurched forward, and sent her away from her Pennsylvania home-- a place she had slowly learned to accept. ~*~ The train ride was slow, and made sharp turns. April was afraid she'd become sick in the stomach or at least have a terrible headache. To take her mind off it, she pulled the letter from her pocket, and slowly began reading Will's apology. April, I'm sorry for being so rude a few weeks ago. I'm sure you are right about God's purpose in our lives, and that we simply have to trust Him. I hope you forgive me, and that we may remain friends. Will It was simple, but meaningful. April was glad to know that he wasn't mad at her. Placing the letter back in her pocket, she laid her head back on the worn seat, and closed her eyes. She would try to get a decent amount of sleep before she would encounter Drew. She sure hoped she had the strength to talk. She soon forgot the rattling train or Drew as she drifted into a dreamless sleep. She was later awakened by a sudden stop of the train, and the conductor who passed through the aisle shouting, "Hendersonville, North Carolina!" She bolted upright, and then grabbed her luggage. The sudden reality had hit her. She was home.
