Caged

Caged

A Poem by SilentLullabies

I am a caged bird with a broken wing.
Even if I were to escape, where would I go?

I can not fly, and so I do not sing.
There is nothing to sing of in a prison.

Whenever my master walks by, I chirp softly.
But I go unnoticed, uncared for.

There is no one to love me
and no one for me to love.

I am nothing but a pretty prize.
Something to own.

i love your use as a bird as a metaphor in its subliminal sense, and yet even though it is commonly used, you made it work very nicely!

Very sad and tragic.

I never understood the whole caged bird as a pet thing nor the fish stuck in a tiny tank pet theme. I would want to commit suicide if I had to live in such a confined space all the time forever until death. It is torture to me, but for some it is a pet yet we would never treat a dog that way.

This is such a sad state. You have caught the emotions very well here.

it's quite difficult to express the feeling of being caged - but you do that very well here. the idea of a "pretty prize" from the last couplet is very plastic.
