The Gate

The Gate

I see this poem like life with many obstacles and over time with more perspective things become clearer and we are more free to explore the meaning.

The Gate

Yesterday the gate stood strong, it's position firm.
Even from the distance I could clearly see it's confidence.
The sound of metal against metal ringing in my ears
as the winds of change rattled the gate
a feeling of ease begins to settle into my soul.
Like new friends with secrets yet to unfold I know my future lies beyond the gate.

Today the gate slightly open but mostly closed seems more tentative,
less intimidating, like an invitation to an exciting event.
I am pulled closer to the gate, the metal now replaced with a white wooden picket gate that
blows freely in the wind, opening and closing, opening and closing.
Like a new friend who pulls me closer to share a story,
a familiar creaking meditates upon my soul.

Tomorrow the gate is gone, remanants of where it once stood reminds

me of what the past brings to the future.
The fence now weathered from the years, provide revelation of what was, what is,
and presents a promises for tomorrow.

I have accepted the invitation to the big event as a new mission settles upon my soul.

I see a new gate in the distance. I breathe in, I smile,
I laugh to myself, I sense a familiar knowing in my soul.

I like this a lot. I like the way that the gate changes as we get accustomed to situations. The material becomes lighter until it disappears altogether. I like the end where the gate is welcomed as a portal to good things.
