How I know

How I know

A Poem by klawrites

Dreaming of your kisses
And longing to touch your skin
To feel your heat and hear your heart

It was your face that I thought about
whenever I tried to feel joy inside
Conjuring mental images would fail to satisfy

I would often wonder if your laugh still sounds the same
If you become weak when you hear my name
if your voice still has that soft rugged charm
And at night, who'd feel the embrace of your arms

I would imagine myself seeing you after so many years
and my heart sinks,
my soul sighs,
my big world momentarily skrinks,
Grasping that eternal prize before it disappears

I would feel you in my highest highs
And search for you when joy began to die
In moments of stillness I'd realizes
that even my breath calls out for you

We became untouched but never ignored
I've felt you with me always. In my heart you were stored.

And that is how I know
That I am still in love with you
