When I Give You My Heart

When I Give You My Heart

A Story by Katryna Warnelis

When I give you my heart, I'll have put it in a plain brown shoebox with one red ribbon tied around it, because it's not the outside that really matters, it's the inside; if it's love, it's love, and nobody else has to believe it or feel it but you and me. When I give you my heart, I want you to happily accept it. I want you to want it. I want you to feel the most alive you've ever felt. When I give you my heart, I want you to hold it, but hold it gently, and hold it dearly, because it's fragile to all and any; though I want to you to hold it, because I trust that you won't let it break without putting up a fight. I want you to keep it in your closet, or underneath your bed, or in the bottom drawer of your dresser. When I give you my heart, I expect you to love it, and protect it, and cherish it, because if you were to open up and give me yours, I know I'd do the same. When I give you my heart, it's yours to keep.
