A ReasonA Poem by Olive Belikov
I never had a reason to stay
I never had a reason to pray. My life was full of fire and ice, I always thought I'd pay the price For others' mistakes And others' ravenous takes. But there was a day I was down, So many people had knocked me to the ground, When a boy came out from the blue, A boy I soon learned to be you. You said follow your dreams And don't ever stoop to their screams. Years it took for me to believe There was something other than grief, But you laid by my side All the times that I hauntingly cried. And I lived and I learned That you have always returned. So here I am, looking up at the stars, No longer looking at the ugly scars Cause all I see are your loving eyes, Hearing none of the monsters' cries; Knowing I have a reason to pray And knowing I will always have a reason to stay.
