Every Day

Every Day

A Poem by Olive Belikov

Every day
I come home
Get off the bus
Go up the front stairs
And stop.
I stare at the door,
Contemplating what lies on the other side.
Mom's at work, always at work;
So no help there.
Dads inside,
Probably watching t.v.
Sink will be full
With his dirty dishes.
Laundry will be waiting
From when I started it this morning.
Counter full of food
He never put away.
Cats need fed.
House needs cleaned.
Dinner needs made.
I also know
That as soon as I walk in,
He'll have a reason already made
To yell at me.
"Go clean your room, stop being a slob!"
"You forgot your homework, why the hell are you so irresponsible?"
"You do nothing around this house.
You live here, do some work!"
But the thing is,
I don't live here.
I work here.
Sure, I have a room.
Clothes in a drawer.
But it doesn't feel like a home.
So I stand here
Outside the door,
Knowing I can't wait forever.
I take one deep breathe
Reach out
And open my life.

this is awesome! it relates to most of us, to tell you the truth, there have been many a time when i got to the door and thought 'f**k it' and turned around and left, knew it would be there later, but somehow finding a pub and coming home pissed as a fart makes it a lot easier, you should give it a go

that was awesome! i loved the way you set the scene, the imagry was very clear in my head. your short sharp sentences amplify this sad situation, and the whole thing flowed really well. Great Job! :)

and thanks for the read request :)

I can see where you're coming from all too well. I'm sure a lot of others can too. Hang in there, nice poem!!
