Death of the UniverseA Story by EradikaitA philosophical understanding of how everything is interconnected.“Does a man die when the memory of him is forgotten?” He paused his motion. I could sense the clockwork
running, turning. The sound waves vibrated in meditation. An answer: “His name is lost. But his purpose permeates our life.” I glanced at the floor, feeling less far-removed. Was
this relief? “He witnessed the birth of the white dwarf,” He
continued. “He beats inside your veins. He will rest in the star’s glowing
corpse. He was, he is, he shall be.” I settled inside myself. “We are all born from the universe,” He paused. “But this
shall too refute existence.” “What will?” He made a sweeping motion with his arms. “All of this.” The fruit of knowledge rotted. “Are you referring to the death of the universe?” I
whispered. He met my alarming stare. “Yes, I am.” The burden of self-recognition crushed me. He offered a soothing smile and said, “But it will
reincarnate. Nonexistence for the universe is temporary.” I reached for his hand; a bundle of warmth and
recollection. “I see myself in you.” He grasped my other hand: the beauty in a shared truth. “All of this is here,”
He looked toward me. “And there...”
His eyes flew upward, spinning toward the sky. He was
beyond the finite. I knew we would never be lost. “When memory is forgotten, we will find ourselves in
everything.” It was purpose beyond the self. “So it shall be.”
