The Past can Haunt YouA Chapter by Verity"Welcome back to the Diamonds, Katherina," Darrell smirked, trying to hide an enthusiastic smile. I groaned, trying to sit up. My back was aching from the landing. "Why do you hate me so much?" I snapped angrily and grabbed a towel from the tray besides me. "Hate? Me hate you? Whatever do you mean?" Darrell asked innocently. I grunted and set to drying my hair. "So what is it this time? Another crazy lunatic wants world domination?" I asked. "Close but not quite. The Director asked me to send you to his office when you get here. It's quite interesting actually, namingly because you have relations with the subject," Darrell said, turning on one of his three MacBook Pros. That was the benefit of being the Division's best cybercrime and technological agents; you are always surrounded by a lot of advanced expensive technology. I gasped, turning a deathly pale. No, I thought, No, he couldn't have. He couldn've possibly put me on the case. I was too associated with the subject! Why did I have to relive the past again? Why couldn't anyone just forget The Incident ever happened? I was about 90% close to going into panic mode. I looked at Darrell with a horriffied look. "No! What? Why? I can't be on this case! I just can't!" I shouted. "Not my problem, Kath. Not my problem. I argued to let someone more experienced and professional do take over, but the Director said to let you and only you manage the case," Darrell replied calmly. I felt as if I was on the verge of tears. "Here's the case. Now get out of my station. You're contaiminating it with your stupidity," Darrell gave me a folder and ushered me out. I got out of the room and headed to the Director's office, completely speechless. My heart had been broken into pieces by him once... I couldn't handle trying to outsmart him again... I had betrayed him one time too many to try to betray him once more. It just wasn't fair... I had hurt him too much... Why did I need to ruin his life some more? As I trudged to the Director's office and ignored the murmers of gossips between Aces' agents, I shedded a few tears. What did the Director expect me to do? Put him behind bars and expect everything to be all right?
