A Chapter by Kitalia Emme

Ferron rushed in, holding his arm, the pain was nearly unbearable. He was unsure who he would be saving, after all, he knew her secret. There was a chance that his bursting in meant that he was saving that b*****d and not Chenoa. Still, it wasn’t a risk he was willing to take, and even if she won the fight, there would be Hell to pay. If she killed him, it was an executable offence. He looked around as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, hoping he was not too late. His heart sank as the room came into view. Chenoa was sitting on the floor, her snowy complexion splattered with the crimson droplets. It was too late…

The barons heart was still beating, lying on the floor beside him. The hole in his chest oozing the dark liquid, his face twisted in shock and anguish as the light faded from his eyes. It was clear he was no longer of this world.

“Chenoa…” Ferron panted, he was relieved that she was safe, but there was no way they could cover this up. His mind raced in desperation, there had to be some way, he couldn't let her get caught. If she was it was strait to the tower. They would kill her for sure. He reached out to pull her to her feet, trying not to think about the slime that coated her hands.

“Chenoa, we have to get you cleaned up. You can’t be seen like this. I’ll leave them some bate while you get cleaned up, we’ll leave tonight. Chenoa?” She was looking dazed, as if this was all a dream. “Chenoa, please, look at me, now is the worst time for you to fall asleep.”

“Ferron?” She finally looked him in the eyes. “Ron, you gotta arrest me. They’ll think you helped. You’ll lose everything, you gotta do it! Ron, please!” She let go of his hands and held out her wrists. “You shouldn't go down because I panicked. You have to turn me in. I’ll confess, I will.”

“I’m not going to lose anything, Chenoa, please listen to me. I have a plan. I’m going to leave them a red herring, and we are going to leave the fort. Hell, we’ll leave the whole damn kingdom! Chenoa, get cleaned up and covered up and we’ll leave tonight.”

“No!” She stepped away from him. “If we do that you will lose everything, your family, your future. Ron, if we do this you will never be the captain.”

“Then go on your own. If you want that badly for me to stay here, go!” He could feel the heat of anger rising in his cheeks.

“No… Ferron. Turn me in. I am a monster, a demon, I can’t live like this. What if I do this again?” The tears were falling freely, leaving pale tracks in the blood that splattered her face.

His heart sank. It was true, she wasn't human. She was a product of the nether world, a cambion.
