it feels so nice to wake up next to you
face to face
legs intertwined
my arm numb under your chest

and we're so close i can
feel the air from your nose
your morning breath is so nasty
you've got boogers in your eyes
i can't believe how beautiful you look

and if i wake up early enough
i can see the sunrise
see how it caresses you,
highlights you in your own special spotlight
one only i get to see you under

i can see the hairs growing in between your eyebrows
i see the bumps and acne marks
and the one scar you got from when you were younger,
roughhousing with your siblings

i can see the creases on your forehead,
the fat in your cheeks,
the curve of your nose and shape of your cheekbones
how it all fits your face so nicely

i can see the shine and highlight of your hair
it's a little longer than you'd like, already past the top of your ears
your sideburns are growing in
and you mustn't have shaved recently, because
i see the small whiskers on your chin and jawline

and your skin looks so lovely in the early morning light
tan from a life in the sunshine
honey, golden, sweet
freckled and spotted and
a beautiful motley of things

and i love waking up next to you
exploring and discovering every nook and cranny of your beauty,
worshipping every blemish
god, you're so lovely

earlier i told myself i wouldn't
and i know that later i'll regret it
but let me bask in the idea of
you staying here, right here
so i can continue on the endless journey that is you
