NO!

NO!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at the upcoming referendum on the Fiscal treaty in Ireland.

"
Ah dear little Enda so plump and so red,
Slaps the face of Ireland from Europe's bed,
Vote yes now thick Paddy's and do as your told,
Roaring laughter in the dail sure we knew they would fold.
Piggish Brendan pipes up always at the fore,
If they don't tick the right box I'll stomp on the poor,
What need does a country have for health and for learning,
To hell with the young, long as I'm not left learning.
Never happy our leaders, sure tax all the homes,
The jets must be fuelled so we're free to go roam,
From country to country, drinking vodka and lime,
Getting fatter and fatter on the tax payers dime.
Fiscal treaty, referendum's sure debates are abound,
Greying Vincent on his chair through a screen gather round,
To my Ireland I tell you, I adore and love you so,
Be brave dear voters, tick the box that says no.

Let me guess ... you're against it, right? xD
Ok, now talking about the poem:
I enjoyed it, you've made a great job with the words' sounds and the metrica, also a great job with the rhyme scheme (AABB), what i appreciated the most was the fact you showed us a part of you, i honestly haven't seen from the time you posted an irish tale in original language .... your patriotism,
i loved verse 15 "To my Ireland I tell you, I adore and love you so", i'm not Irish, I'm Brazilian, I love my country and reading your poem i can associate your love for Ireland with my love for Brazil :)
Great job, quick tip (if you allow me):
write more of these, please !!

I don't know anything about Irish politics, but this sounds good to me; I'd surely vote "No" based on the surety of your poem.

something about this is so incredible, though i'm not sure if it's the personification or the metaphors or pounding message behind it all; likely, it's all three together, and more. lovely.

that being said, it feels like you could use a little more editing. in several places, you're missing commas or have left a word out. editing is key in having complete understanding of the message you mean to portray.

Ireland is like the USA. President will feed a thousand reporters for votes. One in six are hungry in the USA. President wife take mom to Africa for a visit. Costing the USA government $3 million for security, plane and food. Each congressman get $2.3 million to live on and eat. World is nuts. I believe if the leaders don't learn. The counties with logic and control could lose their balance. I like the ending. Like you I love my USA. But I know we need less government and less waste. Thank you for the excellent poem.

Although i am unfamiliar with the political situation of your country that this poem centers on, i am quite pleased with your witty wording and rhymes to stick them with like daggers. I have always found political poems to be quite amusing, even if i don't know what they are about. I can only hope for the best for your land.

There's a perception sometimes that I am the only one who's wrong about something and others are not. It comes from the experience of the ' privacy of the prick,' because its yours and yours alone, it creates such an impulse in us about other matters as well. Government is bureaucracy everywhere. As far as I know they can't legislate love and never have anywhere in the world. The individual may sometimes do that to himself..
