NO!

NO!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at the upcoming referendum on the Fiscal treaty in Ireland.

"
Ah dear little Enda so plump and so red,
Slaps the face of Ireland from Europe's bed,
Vote yes now thick Paddy's and do as your told,
Roaring laughter in the dail sure we knew they would fold.
Piggish Brendan pipes up always at the fore,
If they don't tick the right box I'll stomp on the poor,
What need does a country have for health and for learning,
To hell with the young, long as I'm not left learning.
Never happy our leaders, sure tax all the homes,
The jets must be fuelled so we're free to go roam,
From country to country, drinking vodka and lime,
Getting fatter and fatter on the tax payers dime.
Fiscal treaty, referendum's sure debates are abound,
Greying Vincent on his chair through a screen gather round,
To my Ireland I tell you, I adore and love you so,
Be brave dear voters, tick the box that says no.

Let me guess ... you're against it, right? xD
Ok, now talking about the poem:
I enjoyed it, you've made a great job with the words' sounds and the metrica, also a great job with the rhyme scheme (AABB), what i appreciated the most was the fact you showed us a part of you, i honestly haven't seen from the time you posted an irish tale in original language .... your patriotism,
i loved verse 15 "To my Ireland I tell you, I adore and love you so", i'm not Irish, I'm Brazilian, I love my country and reading your poem i can associate your love for Ireland with my love for Brazil :)
Great job, quick tip (if you allow me):
write more of these, please !!

This poem certainly expresses a political leaning, with referents to culture and expressions that I am not familiar with. Those in power, no matter the type of government, always squeeze the poor and stand on their bowed backs. And many people don't care as long as they have their own vodka, lime or big T.V.s. Be patient, my friend. Soon all those corrupt political systems will be dust. For your poem: the writing is clear and reveals the emotion of a caring person.

Funny, the same sentiments that are expressed here, are hidden within the silenced voices around the world. Not just about Ireland, but most every government around the world. Granted, I am in the United States, and I am among the millions in this country to be hated for what the government does, but even though the thought is that we are the land of the free, there is much misguided views on that. Whereas I don't believe in a lot of things the government does, the only way to prevent a challenge to it requires finances. Even if petitions are signed to do this that or the other about something, any paid congressperson funded by a lobbyist can strike it down. You are not alone in your desire for change, believe me, worldwide, citizens want a change, the governments just have the ability to prevent it for right now.

An honest and clever written write. Though I may seem like the only person to say so, it seems voting doesnt matter these days because as you said it's all about getting fatter and fatter on the taxpayers dime in the world of politics. We the people of any country protest and try to voice our opinions and reasons but to the government we are powerless. However, I sincerely applaud those who speak their voice, and hope one day everyone's will be heard to the best of this world can offer to those that inhabit it.

Both powerful and wickedly humorous at the same time.

Intelligent word play in the first verse. Intriguing, indeed - for readers from the U.S.A. (the U.S. ENDA). For me, your poem felt like a modern political history lesson without you imposing any lecture on me. Therefore, I listened! Beautifully written in its flow and informative elements. And this comment, from someone who does say "NO!" to politics in a pitiful idealistic way. Imagine that...
