Maenad.

Maenad.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A piece I was working on, in responce to the re-interest of Greek mythology.

"

The sullen face of the pretty one masked in sweat,

She cooks the corn of markets trailed in the day,

Her life is locked in tradition and obligation to him,

Even though it's truth with their son he does lay.

A light starts to shine in the mist of a black forest,

Dionysus offers her the ash apple of sodom to eat,

Make music and dance in the streets at your will,

Be naked and offer fresh hearts to me at my feet.

Guided forth she leaves this exsistence behind her,

Immortal and begging for her God to return now,

Trailing the earth leaving sex, dirt and death in her wake,

Ancient Greece does leave sweat upon her brow.

A bulls head and talons are her only true companions,

Take note of the saddness she once knew and had,

For it's gone now and replaced with sheer power,

Antonia now holds the the title of the feared Maenad.

This is very cool! I love how back in the days........... Greek mythology was used to explain away the trials of the day. Well penned!

Let me be the first to rave about this brilliant poem,
you have a soft and dark cloud of sex, dust and unbridled
whims passing over this house of caffeine laden dreams...

smooth read, 100/100

I love the story that is woven into this piece. It is detailed and it is a bit disheartening, but Greek Mythology is full of loss, violence, and pain. You have let me walk through this poem scene by scene with the characters. Well done.
