Lip to Lip

Lip to Lip

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at the senselessness of war.

"
Lay waste to blood on fields forgotten,
battles of stupidity and stopped fear,
Pry open the secrets of men behind desks,
gaze upon bodies of dead children dear.

Fight hand to hand and lip to lip,
fright as weapons and scars old,
No hope for silence upon grasslands,
the knife and gun now voiced bold.

Steel and cigars hold them in,
memory's feel false and fresh in hail,
Take peace as the commodity it is,
sex and loyalty wait inside the jail.

News composes thoughts of the few,
the quite war now begins with talk,
Science explains all but behavior,
dead bodies for now begin to walk.

That one stanza said loads. I share your sentiment about war and conflicts in general

Penetrating words, if I may use that wor? lol This is stunningly worded, as is all of your work :)
War is abhorrent to me....what will those souls find after giving their lives? I often dwell on that fact! Redemption for their previous sins or a shard of glass in their wounds from the hypocrisy of war.....no soldier should have to die, no civilian!
Heart breaking poem love

I love these lines-they're so powerful. They highlight the corruptness and insanity of war very well.

Men who fought in the bloody battles. Rarely talk of them. War is seconds. To live a day where your life is in danger every second would make you different. To kill would make you know how to kill. To watch a friend die would piss you off forever. Your poem touched many points. Men who fought in wars where Soldiers were tools for pieces of land. Where 20,000 stones with flags stand for men with one purpose. Make the youth Soldiers understand. War had no conscious. Thank you the powerful poem.

head on! such a perfect view of the problems with wars. old men send young men to die while THEY relax in their offices.
you have packed so much into this piece Fitz. I wish I had the talent you have of putting so much power behing each word and phrase! so much so that I read your poems and feel like I have read an entire philosophy book and come away so enlightened.
Another great write
favorite for sure

War is a grim thing, for sure. I too hope never to experience it myself.
your poem captures the horrors well. Great imagery.

My one little critique here, and I suppose this is just me being picky, but since you don't seem to be going for free verse here, I think this poem would benefit greatly from tighter meter, just to let it flow better. This might just be my personal aesthetic, I don't know, but I think it might help a lot. Breaks in the flow, unless intentionally there for emphasis, really distract from a poem written in a more traditional style.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps :P
